Are you aware that you can improve your oral health simply by enhancing your flossing techniques? Flossing is a key aspect of your oral health care along with brushing and should be done at least once every day. Brushing your teeth cannot efficiently reach between teeth, so floss must be used to clean areas your brush cannot go.
With dental floss, you can make sure the spaces that brushing cannot reach between teeth are thoroughly cleaned. However, doing the job successfully is half the battle. For beginners, you should always use a piece of thread long enough to clean between each tooth without using the same portion of a strand more than once. Ideally, the perfect thread length would be about 16-20 inches. Gently wrap each end of the strand around a finger on each hand so you can move up and down the floss as needed.
It’s pivotal that you find dental floss that is strong, safe, and effective. Always try to use shred resistant floss, such as single filament floss, and floss that has been given the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance for safety and effectiveness. You can also speak with your dentist about which products would be best for you. If you are getting older and struggle with flossing effectively, try switching to a water flosser or similar interdental tool designed to clean between your teeth with less effort.
