What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are titanium posts that replace the roots of missing teeth. Once placed into the jawbone, they integrate with the bone through a natural process called osseointegration, creating a secure and durable foundation for a custom dental crown, bridge, or denture.

Unlike dentures or traditional bridges, dental implants:

  • Preserve jawbone density and facial structure
  • Stand independently without affecting neighboring teeth
  • Restore nearly full chewing power
  • Provide stability with no slipping, clicking, or adhesives
  • Look and feel like your own natural teeth

When a tooth is missing, the surrounding bone begins to shrink because it no longer receives stimulation from chewing. Implants prevent this bone loss, helping maintain a healthy, youthful facial profile.

Many patients tell us that after a short time, they forget which teeth are implants because they feel so natural.

Your Dental Implant Treatment Process

At Roman Dental Arts, we handle your entire treatment, from planning to placement to final restoration, right here in our office. Your smile transformation begins with a comprehensive evaluation, where we'll examine your teeth and gums, review your medical history, and use advanced 3D CBCT imaging to assess bone density, map precise implant placement, and assess the need for any additional treatments before your implants are placed, such as bone grafting.

On the day of your procedure, your dentist will place the implant with exceptional precision. The procedure typically takes 1–2 hours per implant, and most patients return to normal activities within a day or two. Sedation options are available to ensure your comfort, and you’ll receive detailed post-operative instructions and any necessary medications.

Over 3-6 months, your jawbone will naturally fuse to the implant. This integration is what makes implants so strong and reliable. If needed, we provide a temporary restoration so you never have to go without a complete smile during healing.

Once healing is complete, a small connector called an abutment is placed. After the gum tissue heals, we create your final crown, bridge, or denture using digital impressions for optimal fit and appearance.  Your final restoration is carefully crafted to match your natural teeth in color, shape, and size – resulting in a beautiful, functional smile you can rely on.

Our Implant Systems

At Roman Dental Arts, we offer a full range of implant options to meet our patients' needs, including:

Single Tooth Implants

Dr. Donald Roman of Roman Dental ArtsIdeal for one missing tooth, a single implant and crown restores your smile without altering healthy neighboring teeth.

Implant-Supported Bridge

An implant-supported bridge replaces several missing teeth using two or more implants. This option is more stable and natural-looking than a removable partial denture.

Full Arch Restoration

For our patients missing most or all teeth in an arch, a full arch of teeth can be supported by as few as four to six implants. This approach provides superior function, stability, and long-term comfort compared to traditional dentures.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

Dental implants can benefit patients who are:

  • Missing one or several teeth
  • Missing an entire arch of teeth
  • Struggling with loose or uncomfortable dentures
  • Looking for a long-term, natural-feeling solution

Ideal candidates should have healthy gums, good overall health, and sufficient bone density. However, even if bone loss has occurred, bone grafting can often rebuild the area to support an implant.

Caring for Your Dental Implants

One of the biggest advantages of implants is how easy they are to maintain. Care for them just like natural teeth, by brushing twice daily, flossing, and continuing to visit us at Roman Dental Arts for your routine dental cleanings and exams.

With proper care and regular checkups, implants can last decades, and often a lifetime. The crown may eventually need replacement due to wear, but the implant itself is built to stay with you long-term.
